The Bible doesn’t allow us the luxury of APPLYING GOD’s HOLY WORD through whim and fancy,
convenience or preference. It does not matter if multitudes prefer an interpretation. It only matters if God
and His ways (Psalm 119: 15, 16, 17) lead to truth, life and God’s bountiful favor.
So it is with the Book of Revelation. We live in an age overwhelmingly fascinated with the Book. Almost
all of that which professes to interpret its contents prefers what may be called “the sensational”. This
view has led so many people in America to WITHDRAW from the public arena of society, in essence,
handing it over to the wicked (though that was not the intent, perhaps). They also tend to make ALL – or
MOST – of the Book, a commentary on today’s world.
Additionally, there are those who react to this sensationalistic withdrawal from responsible Christian
action, and go the other extreme: They take too much out of today… or even the last several hundred
years… and apply it to the first century.
Both views, in the opinion of this author, are errant. Both do the same thing , just at opposite ends of
history. They both forget that God applied this book to the whole of the history between the Advents of
Christ… for all of His people – not just one or two generations – to gain benefit and guidance.
That will be explained further as we will see.
