Description
Are you suspicious – or at least very uneasy- about how Revelation and “last days prophecy” are used by
many churches, pastors, and Christians throughout our country? No doubt, churches, pastors, and
Christians can …and DO… get excited about Revelation’s prophecies. But that is often the problem, not
the solution. Many often seem to be compelled to go out and bring – NOT change to the problems and
needs of the community around them – No, they want to change your views of Prophecy. They seem to
become content to enjoy the thrill that “all will be OK” because “Revelation says ______ (you fill in
what you’re hearing).” And then, after soaking up the THRILL of prophecy, many just seem to be
lethargic about investing their heart, energy, and resources into the world of their neighbor’s problems,
sins, and the call to disciple… unless they can somehow steer the discussion toward the excitement of
“prophecy.”
So, as we face the daunting task of interpreting the Book of Revelation, we must – in this brief volume –
face these issues:
• Why are there so many confused interpretations of Revelation?
• What kind of hermeneutic finds so much Scripture being somehow turned to “last days”?
• How should churches respond when yet another date is wrongly set for the Return of Christ?
• What is significant about the fact that last days prophecies are a test of orthodoxy and fellowship
• How should we judge the fact that many Christians don’t live the Gospel life but seem to make
“last days” teachings a kind of “gospel” in itself?
• May we marvel that a new “evangelizing” has people going right to last days and prophecy
instead of an emphasis on sin, repentance, and righteousness!
• Is it the case that Christianity is powerless TODAY creating the lingering suspicion that many
who claim “last days” excitement do so because they are looking for something that assures them
Christianity is true?
