The Dean’s Warning
My name is Dr. Wayne C. Sedlak…
As a pastor, missionary to Africa, professor and Dean over the past 50 years, my work in God’s ministry has faced many trials. From being hunted as a missionary by terrorists in Africa … to pastoring churches for several decades … to presiding as a Dean and professor over students around the world, there have been many challenges.
But, among them, there is one that stands out and was originally called by others “A Dean’s Warning”, …and I am that Dean.
As a former acknowledged expert in homeschooling in a court of law, I have become known for what others call ” The Dean’s Warning”. This has been my burden for Christian young people for decades and is especially directed to parents of Junior and High School homeschooled students. Often, resentment toward God among our children is too subtle for them to even fully understand (masquerading as “teen rebellion” but actually often MUCH deeper than that!). Let me explain.
A True Story
A young student I’d known since childhood—bright, polite, raised in a home of deep Christian conviction—had just graduated from a small Christian school. She stepped into the world beyond with a diploma in hand but an education ill-equipped for the spiritual battlefield that awaited her.
At her Christian college, her faith did not face open hostility or loud defiance. It was far more insidious. Professors didn’t argue against what she believed—they simply replaced it. Slowly. Skillfully. A redefinition here, a recontextualization there. One by one, the pillars of her faith were quietly dismantled and swapped out for secular ideologies dressed as enlightenment. No alarms sounded. No warnings were
given.
In time, she realized what had occurred. It was as if someone had rewired the very foundation of her thinking. What she once knew as truth, now seemed narrow, even naïve. The faith that once anchored her no longer existed in her heart. It was fragmented, faint echoes of a once-vibrant conviction.
Her history classes were cloaked with academic authority as “This is what really happened.” They did not merely reinterpret history; they stripped it of any trace of the divine. God was not debated; He was erased. History was intentionally atheized, emptied of providence, purpose, and moral absolutes, thus reduced to a cold chain of human errors and evolutionary progress. The same subtle erasure echoed in mainstream media, high school textbooks, bestselling books, online content, government-sponsored narratives, and—most grievously— too many Christian ministries professing to be faithful, yet unknowingly adopting the world’s framework.
In every corner, the message was clear: history belongs to man, not to God. And in that quiet, persistent lie, her faith found no footing. She now walked as if there was no God to hear her. Later, her marriage suffered. Child-rearing became a burden, not a joy. Her life mirrored the downward spiral of a nation that forgets God—like Judah in the days of Jeremiah, who traded fountains of living water for broken cisterns that hold none.
As a graduate school and college Dean (two separate post high school academic institutions), I see many Christian young people come into the schools disheartened. Often, I see them as disillusioned in their faith in Christ and I’ve seen this for the better part of 4 decades.
One of the purposes of our schools is to help prevent such disillusionment.
Why disillusioned?
Too often, the history texts used are little more than history from a secular viewpoint with some exceptions that add “God” and some Bible verses to the narrative. Among other dangers, this risks making some individuals throughout history “heroes” or “role models” who ought not to be!
Often enough, our young people don’t miss this not-so-subtle lack of Christian worldview content.
Please don’t misjudge me. I am not here to bash any specific text or curriculum, nor to sell one. My task – and we have been doing this for over 4 decades – is to strengthen the faith of those who wish to learn coursework – in this case, a high school world history (from the time of Christ’s First Advent until now).
Feedback from grateful parents and pastors has shown us this coursework has changed the lives of hundreds of students (See testimonials below). It challenges secular history where unbelief is disguised as “scholarship”. This course demonstrates the Lord’s purpose for history and is offered at no cost!
The course is offered at no cost to those taking it, including bonuses. We invite any who wish to take the course (details below) including parents, and other adults.
The problem we face is a subtly engineered “past” that tends to atheize that past history, erasing the Lord’s expressed Will and declared purpose from the minds and hearts of students (and their parents!).
And herein lies the warning.
When we fail to ground our children deeply in a worldview that is not only biblical but resilient—capable of withstanding the subtle challenges of the age—we send them into the world unarmed. It is not enough that they know the Scriptures; they must understand how the Scriptures interpret and expose the world that engulfs them. If we do not disciple them with discernment, the world will catechize them with confusion.
For the Glory of our Blessed Lord,
