Where Did They Put All The Dirt? A Flood-Based Look at the Grand Canyon

If you were told the Grand Canyon was carved slowly by a tiny river over a very long time, one question naturally follows: where did all the dirt go? That simple question sits at the center of this discussion. In this post, we’ll explore the famous “where did all the dirt go?” question, why it matters to the debate over the canyon’s origin, and how this episode argues for a flood-based explanation rather than slow river carving. The Grand Canyon is often presented as a simple geology story: a river cut through rock over vast stretches of time. But the episode raises a deeper challenge – if the canyon was carved out gradually, what happened to all the missing material? That question opens the door to a much bigger discussion about fossils, fossils on mountaintops, frozen mammoths, and the assumptions behind evolutionary timelines.

- The canyon is enormous, not a small cut in the landscape.
- A slow river-carving model requires vast amounts of erosion.
- Eroded material should leave traces downstream or in nearby sediment deposits.
The point here is simple:
If you remove that much earth, you should be able to find its vast billions of tons of sediment “downstream.” Its peculiar “Canyon sediment” will be distinct from that of the downstream sediment … and enormous. Nothing of the sort is found.
Why the River-Only Explanation Struggles
The episode is not just asking a rhetorical question. It makes the additional point that the Colorado River is too small to have produced the canyon’s scale of erosion. The timeline doesn’t hold up. Frozen mammoths and rapid climate change. One example is the frozen mammoths and other large animals found in Arctic regions. One should ask how creatures could end up frozen so suddenly, sometimes with food still in their mouths. Its answer is that a massive global catastrophe – not ordinary climate drift – must have caused abrupt freezing and suffocation. It connects this to a post-flood world in which the climate changed radically and rapidly.2. Mountains rising and valleys falling. The Bible references language about mountains rising and valleys sinking during the Flood. It treats this as a description of sudden geological upheaval rather than slow mountain building. The point here is that the planet has scars. It has signs of force, friction, mountain scarring, pressure, and abrupt change. That, it is argued, fits a flood better than the idea that everything has always behaved more or less the same way.3. Volcanic activity and material accumulation. Another argument herein is that volcanic eruptions, over the alleged billions of years of Earth’s history, should have produced far more material than exists. If volcanoes have been ejecting rock and ash for that long, the result should be dramatically different from what we see today. In other words, the long timeline itself as a problem. It says the numbers don’t match the landscape. This is one of the most repeated themes in the recording.
Why This Debate Is About More Than Geology
By the end of the episode, the Grand Canyon is no longer just a canyon. It becomes a symbol of a larger worldview conflict.
