Chokepoints Through Time with Dr. Wayne C. Sedlak

Have we been conditioned to believe in extraterrestrials while ignoring what Scripture reveals about the supernatural world?

For decades, Hollywood, popular culture, and even government investigations have encouraged us to interpret mysterious objects in the sky as visitors from distant planets. But what if we are looking in the wrong direction?

Ezekiel’s Wheels and the Unseen World

The prophet Ezekiel describes extraordinary heavenly beings accompanied by mysterious “wheels”, called ophanim in Hebrew. These descriptions have puzzled interpreters for centuries.

Could some modern reports of UFOs, glowing orbs, and unexplained phenomena have a spiritist (occult, paranormal) rather than extraterrestrial explanation?

Scripture clearly reveals the existence of angels, fallen angels, and spiritual warfare. While we must distinguish biblical revelation from speculation, we should not allow modern assumptions to dictate our understanding of the supernatural.

Satan’s Jurisdiction: A Great Biblical Misunderstanding

One of the most persistent errors in popular Christianity is the belief that Satan rules hell.

Satan is not the king of hell. He is destined for judgment there.

The Book of Job reveals Satan moving throughout the earth, challenging God’s servants, yet always operating under God’s sovereign authority.

He is neither independent nor all-powerful. His influence is real, but his jurisdiction is limited.

Much of what people believe about Satan comes from literature, Hollywood, and religious tradition rather than Scripture itself.

The Church Was Never Called to Retreat

Jesus declared in Matthew 16:18:

“I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Notice that gates are defensive structures!

Christ did not commission His church merely to survive the advance of evil. He commanded us to proclaim the Gospel, call sinners to repentance, and disciple the nations.

The church is not called to surrender territory to darkness but to advance the kingdom of Christ through the power of His Word.

The Real Choke Point

Whether discussing UFOs, mysterious creatures, fallen angels, or Satan’s influence, the central question remains:

Are we interpreting the world – and arguably one of its most powerful and cunning “influencers”, “Satan” – through Scripture, or are we allowing the world to interpret Scripture and the history of nations, people, and events, for us?

The greatest deception may not be what appears in the skies, but what has been planted in the minds of men.

Christians must recover biblical discernment, reject the myths that have replaced sound doctrine, and remember that Jesus Christ reigns all throughout the world.

Satan does not rule hell. Christ rules heaven and earth. And the gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church.
