- What are “Chokepoints”
First of all, “Chokepoints in Time” is the name of my new podcast.
But the reality is that a “chokepoint” in historic terms (and strategic military terms) is a narrow stretch of land, water, or geographic “connection” that can be constricted to create a tactical advantage in a conflict.
In biblical and ethical terms, a “chokepoint” is a problematic area of understanding that invariably leads the churches and Christian people astray, causing a strategic crippling of the Testimony of Christians and their churches. Expanding the concept, a chokepoint impedes the expansion of the Kingdom of God such that Christianity is more easily stopped, diverted from its God given course, or actually destroyed by the world, the flesh, and the Devil.
The problem is simple: “There is no temptation which is not common among men…” Thus, many Chokepoints are repetitive in that they deceive the churches repeatedly throughout history. It seems the Church must endlessly expend “Herself” to defeat them, only to face their beguiling reappearance in another era, fortified much more thoroughly against the Church’s scrutinizing, with often millions of people losing their way …often into eternity.
The most damaging Chokepoints bring apostasy to the churches. Apostasy is that condition of the Church in any era and/or region of the earth, which is terribly misunderstood. In such a state, the Truth of Scriptures is increasingly replaced – piecemeal – by alleged “truths” satisfying the proclivities of many, and thereby misguiding the churches into false hopes, falsified ethics, and an impoverished faith.
Chokepoints are found in ALL branches of Christian Theology and Ethics. Some are imported via other areas of doctrine and ethics, while others initiate the departure into error, doing their dirty work through the genius of sin.
- Pala’
Opposed to the chokepoint – and Apostasy – is “Pala’” a word translated from the Hebrew OT as “wondrous” (miraculously exhibited or applied) “wonderful” (for example, Christ is described thus, “Wonderful” or “Wonder of a Counselor” – Isaiah 9: 6). At the lower end of its powerful range of applications is “extraordinary” (“We are fearfully and wonderfully made.” – Psalm 139:14)
Pala’ is key to understanding ALL Theology of Scripture. Granted, theologies can be written that do not incorporate supernatural, miraculous, or even extraordinary into their understanding of God’s Word. Too often, the temptation to explain God’s Word by importing foreign concepts into its interpretation, while neglecting the understanding of Pala’ as God’s Word repeatedly displays for all to see, becomes dominant, not simply “common.”
Pala’ is the word to describe God’s grace as a “strength” applied to the heart. It is the word used to describe Christ’s genius (describing our Lord as a genius is an understatement) in His public and privately delivered Word.
When Christ was challenged by the combined verbal assaults of the leadership of the day, all of whom were attempting to bring Him into collision with the Roman authorities, they demanded His view about taxes. His Jewish audience hated the Romans; patronizing the crowd could get Christ in trouble. Espousing payment to the unpopular tyranny would lose His audience.
Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s. When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left him, and went their way. – Matthew 22:17-22
They marveled at His reply – Pala’ empowered – His extraordinary reply by which He repeatedly disarmed His adversaries, kept them from successfully entrapping Him, and focused for us the Truth with which He was confronted.
Pala’ is the key to understanding the Church, to understanding how God applies His grace to our hearts, to understanding the essence of His Word (sound theology). Pala’, as a concept of biblical understanding, is what is needed to explain many elements of God’s Church, the means of grace, the power of His Word (Bible), His Providential oversight, the New Birth…and so many other miraculously empowered elements of our faith in Christ.

Understanding History Through the Lens of Scripture: A Deep Dive into the Table of Nations
Introduction: History is often perceived as a mere collection of events, but what if it holds deeper meanings that shape our understanding of faith and purpose? In this blog post, we explore the insights shared in the podcast episode “Chokepoints Through Time” as it delves into the significance of the Table of Nations in Genesis and how it reflects the ongoing conflict between good and evil throughout history.
Main Content:
Section 1: The Foundation of Nations
In the podcast, the speaker introduces the Table of Nations from Genesis chapter 10, emphasizing that it serves as the foundation for all nations. After Noah and his family emerged from the ark, humanity branched out from his three sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This moment in history sets the stage for the diverse world we see today. The speaker notes that this division also highlights two fundamental worldviews: those aligned with God’s will and those that oppose it.
Section 2: The Conflict of Seeds
The discussion takes a profound turn as the speaker identifies the historical conflict between two seeds: the seed of the woman (representing God’s people) and the seed of Satan (those who reject God). This conflict is illustrated through biblical narratives, such as the story of Jonah and the Assyrians. Jonah’s mission to Nineveh showcases how even those without a church background can recognize God’s authority and mercy when confronted with the truth—a powerful reminder of the impact of God’s word.
Section 3: The Role of History in Understanding God’s Will
The podcast emphasizes that history is not neutral; it is steeped in God’s purpose. The speaker references Matthew 12, where Jesus states, “He that is not with me is against me,” underscoring that every action and belief aligns with either God or opposition to Him. The Assyrians, for instance, were used by God to chastise Israel for their disobedience, illustrating how history serves a divine purpose.
Section 4: The Importance of Evangelism and Purposeful Living
The conversation shifts toward the importance of evangelism as a means to fulfill God’s calling. Just as parents raise their children with purpose, believers are called to live purposeful lives that reflect their faith. The speaker encourages listeners to embrace their calling, whether in their careers, personal lives, or relationships, as they navigate the complexities of a world often at odds with biblical principles.
Section 5: Historical Examples of God’s Judgment
The podcast also touches on significant biblical events, such as the flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, highlighting that these occurrences were not random but rather manifestations of God’s judgment. The speaker asserts that understanding these historical events through the lens of scripture allows believers to confront modern challenges with clarity and conviction.
Conclusion: Key Takeaways
The insights shared in this podcast episode invite us to reconsider our understanding of history through the lens of scripture. The Table of Nations serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle between good and evil, and our role within that narrative. By embracing our faith and purpose, we can navigate a world that often challenges our beliefs, armed with the knowledge that history is not just a series of events but a testament to God’s sovereign will.
