Based upon the text at the end of the Prophet Malachi Chapter 4 where it was predicted John the Baptist would fulfill the prophetic power of Elijah’s ministry by calling the people to repentance, the call to fathers and sons is a necessary and vital act of repentance in an age of apostacy.  All throughout our nation, Christian families are being torn apart by a wicked society and its father, the devil. However, this message goes beyond that singular characteristic.  The call of the church in today’s society is a call to reformation- a word hardly even sighted much less believed.  But reformation is not possible without the church using the Law of the Lord to hedge the gospel and to define sin and righteousness. Christian families will remain helpless in the face of the power of their own sinfulness and that of society surrounding them unless the church becomes what the apostle Paul calls it, the Pillar and Ground of the truth.

Malachi 4

For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 5Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD6and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
