The Mystery of the Proverbs 31 Woman
Who was this godly woman of Proverbs 31? Actually, she is well known and a relatively large number of biblical scholars throughout the centuries confirm the choice… in one way or the other (The reader will soon understand the reason for putting it that way.)
To be frank, many Christians…and expositors, commentators, teachers, and authors… fail to appreciate the power of God’s redeeming love. They fail to understand the depth of this mercy and grace. There is a great need in our age to get past “judgmental Christianity” that holds other Christians in contempt for “the broken pieces of life’s sad and tortured “story.”
There is a great need for Christians to study HOW to redeem (and stop excusing ourselves from further concern other than “I’ll pray for you” which too often gets forgotten anyway). In Restoring people who are “broken pieces,” we need to learn HOW the Lord restores such people in THE WHOLE OF THEIR CHARACTER, CONDUCT AND DISCERNMENTS. The whole woman, the whole man are built up over time by the Lord. Failure brings sorrow and tragedy.
The woman of Proverbs 31 knew such tragedy…and cared to make her life a study in redemption through God’s personal Presence in her life: redeeming her family, redeeming the poor and needy, redeeming sound business ethic and honest commercial endeavor redeeming her employees, redeeming reputations, redeeming the community and the nation redeeming her husband and his calling, redeeming education as a standard for others to follow redeeming a prince in preparation for his future throne … and loving the Lord so much that she loved His people FOR HIM until her dying day.
