The pressure for Christian scholarship to surrender to secular reasoning leaves a gaping hole in history. Think about it. But, the discovery here is NOT merely “spiritual”. It takes on a sense of  “forensic” … techniques that move away from mere speculation and religion, merging socioliogical conclusions with professional analysis and observations, interviews, conclusions of psychological, military, and historical investigations. This huge volume – filled with subject after subject (you can start anywhere to read it!) – is quite suitable for review in any public forum for analysis and debate, not to mention the discovery of the greatest criminal in history! And he is incredibly successful in hiding himself, his strategies, his intentions and his hatred of Truth!

Invariably, however, all historical analysis – apart from biblically grounded presuppositions – invites a dependence upon flawed reasoning, even if explicitly denied.

The Scriptures were designed by God as the Handbook for the affairs of life, salvation and godliness. Therefore, all within it is designed for practicality… including a thorough exposé of Satan and all of his wiles. Still, the problem with identifying the Satan of Scripture within the portals of an historical framework and that alongside an intelligible evaluation of his “schemes” (cf. II Corinthians 2:11) throughout history, brings to the fore a unique problem.

Stated bluntly, Satan is supernaturally brilliant, indeed brilliant enough to hide his presence, schemes, motives and intentions through disguise far beyond the capacities of a fallen world to discern him and them.

Put otherwise, without direct Revelation from God in His Word, Satan cannot be discerned for the terrorist, charmer, general, strategist, musician, accuser, philanthropist, religionist, philosopher, scientist, healer, psychologist, historian and “Christian” he has really proven himself to be.
