Satan’s Hedge
In a previous message we showed from Job 1 that Satan mocked Job and desired to strike Job by first having the hedge which God had placed around Job, destroyed. Ezekiel 13 we saw the Prophet was distressed that the figurative hedge of protection around Israel was being torn down by false teachers and false prophets, and that, as the people began to recognize their society was facing a tempest of multiple crisis (sent by the Lord) the Prophet accused them of attempting to put up a (figurative) wall of protection of their own. The Prophet accused them of “daubing with untampered mortar” which was another way of saying their inventions, schemes and cunning were not sufficient to protect them against God’s righteous indignation.
The hedge of protection which God gave to America through the preaching and teaching of the churches during the colonial and early American eras, are being torn down. The Bill of Rights, Upright Conduct accepted throughout society as a standard, Free Market System, 2nd Amendment and many other protections have been thoroughly compromised today. And the churches have, in the main, little or no understanding of the fact Satan has torn down these hedges of protection because God has granted him jurisdiction (Job 1) to attack our society and its freedoms.
This current message, begins by a demonstration of lies exposed by scientists concerning masks and social distancing. Put bluntly, all studies concerning the masks, demonstrate they are thoroughly ineffective. Masks are simply too porous. Social distancing has a spiritual side to it as well as a scientific one. Scientifically, a flu or covid pandemic is spread by ambient humidity, not a failure in social distancing. Spiritually, social distancing trains people to treat one another as if our neighbor is plague and engenders hatred and a tearing of society. Furthermore, this message emphasizes the fact when Satan tears down the hedge of protection around the nation, he erects a hedge of his own around the interpretive framework of the Church of Christ. The hedge he puts up is a thorny fence of lies which make it difficult for the church to defend itself or to return to soundness in doctrine and ethic.
Our Lord Jesus, in John 8, was confronted by a crowd in Israel who had bought in on the lies, of “their father the Devil” and those lies were such a (figurative) tangle of fenced thorns surrounding Israel, characterized by many misinterpretations. It was those misinterpretations that led to false accusations against Christ by this crowd and ultimately their rejection of the Son of God.
Both our Nation and the Churches are swarming with lies- doctrinal and ethical. At the heart of this misinterpretation of confusion, as Daniel relates to us ( Chapter 9) we are a vexed and confused people because we have abandoned the Law of the Lord. In every era of history where the church is confused and compromised, Satan, the father of lies, has placed a thorny tangle of diabolical misinterpretations convincing the church that the Law of God is nothing better than a museum piece… and certainly NOT the standard of “right and wrong” given by God to discern our walk by His Grace.

Lastly, Judges 5 teaches what happens when the people, having lost the hedge about them and having to break down Satan’s hedge, what they must do to gain back what has been lost.
